Tasheel System Installation & Requirements (Step-by-Step, 2025)

By Sys-Metrics· ·

What is Tasheel? (plain words)

Tasheel centers use the official MOHRE e-services portal to process UAE labour transactions. You'll prepare a Windows PC so it opens the portal reliably, reads Emirates ID cards, prints PDFs, and avoids pop-up issues.

If you're new: set up one PC first, document the steps, then clone the setup to the rest.

Minimum PC requirements

  • Windows 10 or 11 (x64 preferred), updated.
  • Microsoft Edge (for daily use) with Internet Explorer Mode enabled for the portal.
  • Smart card reader that supports Emirates ID + official drivers / SDK.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader for PDF viewing/printing.
  • Local admin rights (for one-time installs), stable internet, and a USB barcode scanner (if required by workflow).

Edge IE-mode guide (Microsoft): Open · Emirates ID SDK (ICP): Open · Adobe Reader: Open

Step 1 — Add the portal & enable IE-mode

  1. Open Microsoft EdgeSettingsDefault browser.
  2. Set Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode to Allow.
  3. Go to Tasheel portal, click the menu → choose Reload in Internet Explorer mode.
  4. When prompted, choose Open this page in IE mode next timeDone.
This replaces old Internet Explorer/ActiveX steps and is the Microsoft-recommended way to run legacy web apps.

Step 2 — Install the smart card reader & Emirates ID SDK

Hardware & drivers

  1. Plug in the card reader (USB).
  2. Install the manufacturer driver (from the reader vendor).
  3. Confirm Windows service Smart Card is running (it usually starts automatically on Windows 10/11).

Emirates ID SDK

  1. Go to ICP developers page → Developers.
  2. Download/install the latest toolkit/SDK suitable for your OS.
  3. Reboot once after install, then test card reading on the portal.
Avoid third-party "mystery" web tools unless your center's IT received them from MOHRE/ICP with an official memo. If your tool requires a local port (e.g., https://127.0.0.1:8381/) ensure your antivirus allows it and your IT approves.

Step 3 — PDFs, pop-ups, and printing

  1. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader. Set it as default for .pdf.
  2. Edge → SettingsCookies and site permissionsPop-ups and redirectsAllow → add:
    https://eservices.mohre.gov.ae
    https://*.mohre.gov.ae
  3. In Site permissions, allow Automatic downloads and Insecure content only if the portal prompts—and only for the MOHRE domain.
  4. Test print a sample report/receipt from the portal.
If pop-ups are blocked, you'll usually see a small "blocked" indicator in the address bar—click it and allow for the site.

Step 4 — Optional legacy components (only if your branch still needs them)

  • Barcode fonts (if your printouts use barcodes): install your center's approved font pack.
  • .NET Framework 4.6+ (Windows 10/11 already include newer versions; only install older frameworks if a vendor tool explicitly requires it).
  • Local helper tools (e.g., POS/G2, SmartTasheel, OCX): install only from official instructions, match 32-bit vs 64-bit paths (C:\Windows\System32 for 64-bit binaries on 64-bit Windows is correct; 32-bit binaries go to SysWOW64), then register if required by the vendor guide.
  • If instructed to create C:\UploadMOL for file exchange, add it and grant Users Modify permissions.
Many older Internet Explorer/ActiveX steps are obsolete in 2025. Prefer the Edge IE-mode path and official ICP/MOHRE components.

Security hardening (must-do)

  • Use standard user accounts for daily work; reserve local admin for installs.
  • Keep Windows, Edge, and drivers updated via official channels.
  • Allow local helper ports (if any) only for 127.0.0.1 and MOHRE domains in your firewall/AV.
  • Back up printer drivers & portal settings; document your build image.

10-minute test plan

✅ Portal opens in Edge IE-mode
✅ Pop-ups allowed (no warning)
✅ Emirates ID is read and fields populate
✅ PDF reports/receipts open in Adobe and print
✅ Barcode prints scan correctly (if used)
✅ Antivirus does not block the local tool/service
✅ A second PC can replicate the setup

Troubleshooting quick fixes

Card not reading

  • Reader driver missing/incorrect
  • Try another USB port
  • ICP SDK not installed
  • Antivirus blocking local loopback

Pop-ups blocked / PDF won't open

  • Add MOHRE domains to Pop-ups Allow
  • Set Adobe Reader as default
  • Try Ctrl+F5, then reload in IE-mode
If something suddenly breaks after updates, re-test the portal in IE-mode and re-apply site permissions.

FAQ

Do I need Internet Explorer installed? No, Windows 10/11 includes IE-mode functionality in Edge. Use Edge with IE-mode instead of standalone Internet Explorer.

Which smart card readers work with Emirates ID? Use readers certified for Emirates ID with official ICP drivers. Popular models include ACS readers, but verify compatibility with your specific setup.

Can I use Chrome or Firefox instead of Edge? Edge with IE-mode is recommended for Tasheel portal compatibility. Other browsers may not support legacy ActiveX components properly.

How do I backup my Tasheel PC configuration? Document installed software versions, export Edge settings, backup printer configurations, and create system restore points before major changes.

What if the portal shows security warnings? Only proceed with security warnings on official MOHRE domains. For localhost ports (127.0.0.1), ensure your IT has approved the specific tool and port number.
